Lake Greenwood RV Resort/ Cross Hill, SC.

We arrived in Cross Hill SC. today. We are staying at Lake Greenwood Motorcoach Resort for class A Motorhomes only. There are 84 sites in this resort, they are all for sale. They have sold about 25 of them so far and they rent out the rest of them. If you own one you have the option to rent it out when you are not using the site. We will be exploring all these South Carolina towns while we are here, Greenwood, Abbeville, Newberry, Clinton and Little Mountain.

Saluda, NC.

The arrival of the Spartanburg and Asheville Railroad at Pace's Gap in 1878 was the immediate stimulus for the creation of the town of Saluda. In 1881 the town was incorporated. The Saluda Grade is the steepest standard-gauge mainline railway grade in the United States. The grade consists of a three mile section of track that rises over 600 feet in elevation with a highest offical grade of 4.7% but reaching 5.1% at one point. The tracks have not been used since 2001.
This is a nice town with very friendly merchants. I met one of the merchants and as we spoke he told me that he was from Miami and owned a gas station right down the street from where I worked in Perrine, Fl. His wife was from Hendersonville, NC and they met in Miami and married. They sold the business about 20 years ago and moved up to this area. He does some very nice wood work.

We took a ride over to  the town of Chimney Rock today.  There are gift shops and restaurants along the street just outside of the entrance to the State Park. We did not go into the park as we did not feel like doing any hiking today and the rain was getting ready to move in again today. We drove over to Lake Lure from here and had lunch at The Bayfront Bar and Grill. I pulled off the road a few times and was able to get some photographs of the Broad River.

We are now located in Hendersonville, NC. The Historic Downtown is a very nice area, clean streets and a very busy area. I only noticed one vacant store front for rent. They have these painted bears along the sidewalks on main street, each one is a different theme. Restaurant's up and down main street, some with outdoor seating. We had a brick oven fired pizza with sausage, pepperoni, and pancetta that was very good.

We visited the Wilderness Taxidermy and Outfitters in Franklin, NC. Bill and Linda Fuchs own the business. They host different trips to Costa Rica, Alaska, Amazon and Russia. They have been in the business for 30 years. When we got there we met Bill and he showed us around. We watched one of his employees working on a mount. They also have a Museum at the Taxidermy with hundreds of mounts. It was a very interesting visit.
