Frontier Texas

We went to an exhibition called "Frontier Texas". It tells the story of how Texas (part film, part hologram) was settled, frontier life, Indians. It was really cool and informative. They had a collection of Buffalo wind vanes that were incredible, and huge!

San Angelo, TX

We stopped here while driving around exploring the area.Clare bought a Cactus dish garden.

Wildlife at Spring Creek RV Park

We arrived in San Angelo TX late in the afternoon yesterday. After we got set up I was walking around the campground and this deer came out of the woods and was looking around. He was close to another site the people there were watching him as I was approaching him. No one was trying to feed him. As he started walking back the way he came I followed him as slow as I could. As I followed him some of his friends also came out. I was surprised that I did not spook them.

Texas Hill Country

May 26 - June 1 2014 We are in Fredericksburg Texas located in the Hill Country.Here are some photos of the country side. There are large ranches all over the area.The deer in the photos are Axis deer introduced to Texas in 1932. The Axis Deer can be traced to the foothills of the Indian Himalayas and island of Sri Lanka. This is one beautiful area.

Mission San Jose' in San Antonio Texas

The building of the limestone church, with its extraordinary Spanish colonial Baroque architecture and statuary began in 1768- the peak of the mission's development.Based on Father Morfi's description of what he saw here when he visited in 1777, the church of Mission San Jose'came to be known as the "Queen of the Missions".

San Antonio River Walk

We are now located in San Antonio Texas. Today we took a trip down to the River Walk that is located right in the middle of the Historic section of town and took a  boat ride. There are all sorts of stores, restaurants, hotels and businesses along the river. Very nice area. 

San Antonio Museum Of Art

We visited the San Antonio Museum Of Art. Here are some pictures of work done by Bob Kuhn (1920-2007). He was one of the most popular wildlife illustrators in America. In 1970, Kuhn turned exclusively to easel painting.

Ocean Star Offshore Drilling Rig And Museum

The Ocean Star Drilling Rig and Museum is located in Galveston, Texas. You board the retired jackup drilling rig and view a video about the offshore industry. The museum has three floors of models and interactive displays. After touring the museum you can take the skywalk out onto the drill floor of the rig.This was a very interesting tour.

Galveston TX.

 Down town Galveston is a very nice and clean area. All the old buildings are really something to see. After we walked all around town we both realized that we did not see any vacant buildings.There were a lot of businesses restaurant's and gift shops. Galveston Island has 32 miles of beach and is a treasure trove of things historically Texan.

Galveston Ferry Trip

We took the car on the Ferry from the East side of Galveston to the Bolivar Peninsula in Texas. From the time we got in line at the dock until we reached the other side was 45 mins.

Jamaica Beach RV Resort and some homes on Jamaica Beach

We stayed at Jamaica Beach RV Resort which is 10 miles west of Galveston, TX.it was just far enough out of town so the traffic was not bad at all. There are a lot of beach access areas that you drive down and park but you then have to walk along the beach, no driving on it.

On the road again 2014

We left home the 1st of May heading towards Galveston, TX. We made over night stops in Lake City, FL., DeFuniak Springs, FL.  The first place we spent a few day's at was in Fairhope, AL.at Coastal Haven RV. Park ( May 3 - May 5) which was a nice small quiet park. Fairhope has a very nice downtown Historic area and French Quarter. While there we also took side trips down to Foley AL.

From there we traveled to Breaux Bridge, La. We were there from May 6 - May 8. We stayed at Cajun Palms Resort which was a very large park with 300 sites. When we arrived it was not very full. The only drawback to this park is it fills up on the weekends, it has large swimming pools with a couple of  bars that open on the weekends. We left on a Friday morning and the place was filling up quickly. While there we visited the Tabasco factory on Avery Island, LA. They have a very nice Tabasco Country Store. We also visited the Konriko Rice Company factory located on the grounds of America's Oldest Rice Mill. The old mill is still being used.

From there we went to Beaumont, TX. We spent two day's there. It's a so so place but not much for us to do. Took a side trip to Port Aurthur, TX. this is a deserted, run down evacuated town. While driving around the town we were the only people in the town ,I mean no one was in town. I guess between the Hurricane's & all the new development moving out toward I-10 the old part of town has died.

Headed to Galveston, TX.
